Management reporting guides new strategies at not-for-profit
The directors of an established not-for-profit organisation came to WLM Financial concerned that they weren’t getting coherent reports and information, and as a result couldn’t make strategic decisions.
The first thing we noticed was the organisation’s outdated accounting methods. We implemented Xero and introduced them to Datamolino for accounts payable processing. Next, we began the process of program reporting to better collect and understand their administrative data, and we prepared their budget for the coming year. We also implemented Spotlight Reporting to provide consolidated reports across the incorporated entities. This helped unify the organisation’s messy and scattered Chart of Accounts, and generate meaningful reports.
The clarity gained from the new graphs and KPI reporting quickly brought about visible results. Within 12 months, the directors had the confidence to make significant strategic decisions about new programs they wanted to undertake and existing programs to restructure. This helped them successfully apply for block government funding. We are now able to provide support on an as-needed basis to their new, leaner and more motivated accounting and management team.
